Verizon: The Met Replica ( II Round - not final )

Verizon sought to harness the power of its technology to connect young people with art in a fresh, culturally relevant way. To achieve this, we teamed up with The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City to create an immersive digital experience that seamlessly blends entertainment and education. The result? A dynamic, interactive journey through art history, making the museum world more exciting and accessible for the next generation of art enthusiasts.

The Execution

Replica is an interactive, gamified experience that fuses the rich history of The Metropolitan Museum of Art with the modern excitement of Roblox and augmented reality (AR). The full experience is divided into two parts: a mobile AR app for in-person museum visitors and a Roblox experience for players around the world.

With the mobile app, visitors can explore the museum and discover artworks and artifacts that can be scanned and transformed into collectible digital replicas—everything from a 14th-century Japanese suit of armor to Vincent van Gogh’s iconic straw hat. These digital items can then be used as avatar skins and accessories in Roblox, available across the platform’s 40+ million games.

Harnessing the power of AR and Verizon’s cutting-edge technology, we created a seamless and intuitive way for museum-goers to interact with history in a new, exciting way. To authentically bring The Met to life within Roblox, we utilized Roblox Studio alongside 3D modeling software to ensure the visuals were both accurate and visually stunning. The result is a blend of education and entertainment that connects young audiences with art in a truly immersive, interactive format.


The Results

Replica is a groundbreaking experience that brings centuries of history to life by merging one of the world’s most culturally significant institutions with cutting-edge technology. It was an honor to collaborate closely with experts from The Met to reimagine the traditional museum visit, inspiring young visitors to connect with art and history in a more engaging and immersive way.

AR and gaming have immense potential to spark curiosity and enhance discovery through interactive learning, and Replica is just the beginning. We’re excited to see where this innovation will lead next.
